Remembering a Hero and an Angel:
Juan Ortiz

by Kevin Caruso

Juan Oriz, 26; graduate student in civil engineering; from Bayamon Puerto Rico.

Juan loved life. “Juan found joy in everything he did whether it was studying the complexities of engineering or whimsically playing the drums,” said his wife, Liselle Vega Cortes.

And Juan loved salsa music. “He also was a member of a family music band in Puerto Rico, where he played the timbale (a lightweight drum made of wood or metal).”

And his radiant spirit captured other people, because everyone loved Juan. “He was an extraordinary son,” his father, Juan Ramon, said. “On his wedding day, I told him ... what I felt in my heart, I thanked him for being my son; it was special.”

Juan Ortiz is one of the greatest angels in Heaven.

We miss him.

We honor him.

We love him.

We will never forget him.
